Inequality is high, and as a result the children of the rich and well-connected have opportunities that the rest of the population doesn't. Such is the situation in Pakistan in Moth Smoke, a novel by Mohsin Hamid.
The main character, a relatively middle class vicenarian who works in a bank, is obsessed with getting ahead. He makes a number of questionable decisions driven by envy, though to be fair he's probably never heard of Charlie Munger!
This is the second book I've read by this author, and I plan to continue reading his novels as they are outstanding. I learn a lot about cultures of which I know very little.
