Prolific author Vaclav Smil is out with another book, Numbers Don't Lie: 71 Stories to Help Us Understand the Modern World.
Like all Smil books (at least the ones I have read), this one is heavy on the data. You'll be hit repeatedly with numbers as Smil makes his arguments, but if you can get through it, you'll be the wiser for it.
I didn't feel like there was an overall theme that tied the book together. It's more like reading 71 different, well-researched articles. But as one book it felt a bit disjointed, which made reading it feel like a chore at times if the current topic or "article" was not of interest to me.
