I've heard of most of the highest paid authors, like J.K. Rowling, Stephen King and John Grisham. But perhaps the highest paid author of the last decade is someone I hadn't heard of until a couple of weeks ago: James Patterson. So I decided to give one of his popular novels, Deadly Cross, a read, and it did not disappoint.
The story was gripping, making it a quick read despite having many pages. It's one of those unpredictable murder mysteries that keeps the reader guessing right up until the end.
While I would read this author again in the future, there is one problem for me with this type of book: I don't feel like I learned enough. I prefer books like this that take place in another time and/or place, so I can learn more about some historical event or lost culture that I otherwise wouldn't have the patience to learn about in a non-fiction format.
Enjoy!
