A Rising Man

A Rising Man is the second novel by Abir Mukherjee that I've read, and I did so because the first one was so good. This one didn't disappoint either, with a fantastic story set in 1919 in India during the British Raj.

Tensions were high during the period, as Indians were rebelling (sometimes violently) against British rule of their country. For their part, the British were willing to do whatever it took (sometimes violently) to subdue any threats against their rule. With this serving as the backdrop, a murder of a British official increases the potential for volatility, and it's up to the novel's protagonist to figure out what happened.

This was a real page-turner. It was a fantastic story, and very educational about British-Indian relations of the time as well. I wholeheartedly recommend it and plan to read more from this author.
