No Rules Rules

Netflix is one of the most popular companies in the world, boasting almost 200 million subscribers, and is also a stock market darling thanks to its impressive growth; revenue is up almost three times in the last four years. In No Rules Rules: Netflix and the Culture of Reinvention, Netflix's CEO Reed Hastings describes the culture he believes is behind the company's success.

I expected the usual prattle about encouraging innovation and a having a willingness to fail, but this was far more than that. The company has taken feedback candor and employee responsibility to a new level, from what I can gather. I was constantly surprised by just how far the company is willing to go to:

1) Ensure talent density (i.e. fire people that aren't top performers)
2) Encourage candor between employees to constantly improve performance
3) Enable employees to make massive decisions, rather than push responsibility up to the boss

I highly recommend the book to anyone in the process of building an organization.
