I've read a few murder mysteries over the years (I enjoy the genre every now and then), but The Appeal is the most unique I've ever read. You'll understand right away as soon as you start reading it. I almost put it down because I didn't understand how it could be good, but I didn't and I'm glad for it because it was very good!
The only thing I found confusing was that it's set in England but we're meant to believe that people over there use $ as their currencies and dial 911 in emergencies. I found that confusing, and started to wonder if I was going crazy, but when I looked it up it turns out to be some publisher snafu as they make changes like this generally to appeal to local audiences.
