When something is funny, we laugh. But what is it exactly that makes something funny? I attempted to find out by reading The Comedy Bible. Judy Carter, a comedian herself, takes the reader through the steps required to write jokes.
Unfortunately, I still don't really know what makes something funny. That's because the book is more about the process for creating jokes than it is about why we laugh at certain things, which is what I was actually after. But as a result of reading this book, I now know some methods of how to construct a joke! I didn't realize how structured jokes were, and therefore how anybody can write them if they know the formula and are willing to put in the sweat equity.
Don't worry, I won't be quitting my day job anytime soon. But this book is a must read for anyone looking to get into comedy. (That's all of you, right?)

The nature of all humour is ridicule.
Why don't you try a joke on us? I promise to laugh politely.
